NEW MUSIC: Maya Azucena- “Dance Revolution”
by Keya Maeesha
Ever wonder what the inspiration is behind an artist’s craft? The product that they put out, that song we listen to and absolutely get lost in…what is the motivation behind it? Music hits each of us in different ways. For some, it reminds us of happy days: our grandmothers singing in the kitchen while baking us cookies and singing Mahalia Jackson, pops over there in the garage jamming while listening to some Michael McDonald, moms singing Minnie Riperton in the shower. And then for some, it reminds us of a hard time: experiencing the death of a loved one and using Brandy’s “Missing You” featuring Tamia, Chaka Khan, and Gladys Knight to get us through; breaking up with a love of over 8 years and using Chrisette Michelle’s “Okay” to get through it; or even just experiencing hardships and lack of motivation and using Big K.R.I.T.’s “Wake Up” as a means to push us forward. Whatever the way it hits you, there is story behind each song ever created.
Maya Azucena is a story teller. The way in which she is able to encourage her listeners to release themselves and be be free is amazing. Teaming up with DJ Spinna, Azucena creates a revolution for all women across the globe. Serving as the official song of the One Billion Rising empowerment movement, “Dance Revolution” is a way to let it all go and obtain a new level of self awareness. It is about being unified as a body to stand up for what is right…not to mention the amazing beat and just another reason to dance.
