Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Awards was an electrifying event to say the least – with a roaring audience of around 2,000 at London’s historical Koko venue in Camden.
The evening’s line up was guaranteed to deliver a number of magical moments and it did not disappoint – with jaw-dropping solo performances from Nick Mulvey, Nai Palm from Hiatus Kayote and Natalie Duncan.
Mala in Cuba got the crowds stomping hard with his deep, bass–laden, speaker booming live set. The whole venue was star-struck and enamored by the presence of Marcos Valle as he accepted his Lifetime Achievement Award, then performed tracks from his discography of beloved Brazilian classics.
An ageless Neneh Cherry commanded the stage with Rocketnumbernine, and equally captivating performances came from The Invisible, Stubborn Heart and Hello Skinny. DJ sets were delivered by Alex Patchwork, LeFtO, Romare, Machindrum, Cerys Matthew and Mr Raoul K from Ivory Coast.
The Worldwide Awards was yet another fantastically curated program of cross-genre musical talents venerated by a discerning fan base. Three categories went to public vote: Label of the Year – Brainfeeder, Track of the Year – ‘Flowers’ by Andrew Ashong & Theo Parrish, Best Breakthrough Act – Hiatus Kaiyote.
