NEW MUSIC: Hit-Boy – East vs. West
by Q. Narcisse
Hit-Boy either has an analogous doppelganger, or he’s just an extremely busy guy. Aside from producing tunes for an array of hip-hop superstars, he’s upstarted his own rapping career with ‘HitStory’, his debut mixtape which released in early August. To keep irrelevant fans happy, he’s continued to pump out visuals from the project which has helped keep his name, in fact, relevant.
As if his previous videos weren’t enough, the Surf Club affiliate is back with another titled “East vs. West”. The Cali-native revisits the East Coast/West Coast quarrels that dominated the 90’s, and subsequently left two of hip-hop’s most revered artists – Tupac and Notorious BIG, as well as a multitude of others – in body bags. In dope fashion, the MC/producer dresses up as the martyrs, while videos and interviews of the slain rappers are displayed in the backdrop. It’s an ill concept and from a sheer unbiased perspective, Hit-Boy is definitely making strides as a rapper. Take a listen and judge for yourself!
