This young jazz band from Leeds has been together for just over a year, and already Roller Trio have taken the UK jazz scene by storm.
Roller Trio’s exciting, unique, genre-crossing sound – an edgy blend of jazz, rock and electronica – won them the Peter Whittingham Jazz award in 2011. They have also been nominated for this year’s Music of Black Origin (MOBO) Award for Best Jazz Act and their self-titled debut album has been shortlisted for the Mercury Prize Award.
Roller Trio are James Mainwairing on tenor sax and electronics, Luke Wynter on guitar and Luke Reddin- Williams on drums. It’s during their live performances that their impeccable and innovative musicianship and chemistry become apparent. These guys are tight, and their set is a thrilling, punchy, rhythmic ride through jazzy soundscapes.
