We don’t like to big ourselves up much here at Couch Sessions (we try to to stay humble), but if you weren’t at our Summer Soul Sessions party last Saturday, then you missed out.
The inagural event (which takes place every month) featured drinks specials, food, live music and DJs. And it kicked off from the jump with our resident DJ and Music Editor, Run P getting everything started, playing a smoothed out mix which many would remember from our Soundcloud mix that dropped earlier last week. We usually don’t support this, but the mix had everybody crowdling the DJ booth tryign to take a peak at the dude’s Serato. Always a good sign if you ask me.
After tunes and Bushmills drink specials, it was time for the live music. First up was Brooklyn duo Riots !n Paris. When we interviewed them last week, they promised a high energy show and they most certainly delivered. Sure, there are other groups that blend hip-hop, rock, and R&B, but Riots does it right, and never at any point did it sound played out. The sheer intensity of the act won over the crowd and the group most certainly walked out of Paperbox with some new fans.
The same thing can be said for Dorsh. It’s no lie that we’ve been bigging this dude up since he dropped his mix Neopolitan back in May. The Houston native (via the UK and Indiana) made his debut show show at our event, backed by the sultry soul band Sugar Sugar. As someone who
After the live music it’s the…after party. We moved back out to the patio as So Super Sam was just starting her set. Needless to say, the homegirl made the trap go ham. For over 2 hours, Sam got the back patio hype, so much so that we extended the end of the event and gave everyone Bushmills shots.
Needless to say, the first edition of the Summer Soul Sessions was a success. If you missed out then you have another chance to join us on July 28th, and August 18th. See you there.
