Being as subjective as a born-and-raised Brooklynite can be, it appears that being from Brooklyn is the “in-thing” nowadays. Pop culture has embraced my beloved borough with open arms. And this is evident with Marvel unveiling the new Spiderman as a kid born and raised IN BROOKLYN, Chris Rock having a successful TV show based on his upbringing IN BROOKLYN, and Young Hov dropping the Nets IN BROOKLYN. Now there’s only one question left to ask…What’s Spike gonna do?
A few days ago on April 30th, Nets CEO Bret Yormark introduced us to their new logos and team colors. If you haven’t seen them check it out below. And if you’re from Brooklyn and you haven’t seen this, I’m assuming you’re still a Knicks fan. That’s all well and good, but now you have your own professional sports team to claim…in BROOKLYN!
Jay-Z did have a hand in creating the new logo for the Nets and humbly takes it in stride on his site stating “Papa would be proud”. Us Couch Session’s Brooklynites can hardly wait for the unveiling of the uniforms for the 2012-13 season (Fantasy Basketball, anyone?).
Some like the simple black and white colors of the team saying that it speaks to the heart and culture of the changes currently happening in Brooklyn, while others claim the colors are way too bland and in a way mimics the colors of the San Antonio Spurs.
