PREVIEW: The Ultra Music Festival, Miami

If you’re not suffering from festival fatigue after SXSW (homeless people as WiFi spots, really?) The titan dance label Ultra Records is putting on the 14th edition of their music festival in Miami this weekend and they have some amazing artists performing!  Bayfront Park in Downtown Miami is the beautiful setting for this great festival featuring many huge names in dance music.  Last year, the event drew over 100,000 people so it is no surprise that it is currently sold out.  However, I’m sure if you want to attend badly enough, there are ways to get in (Stubhub, Craigslist, etc).

Here is a quick summary of a few of the many artists appearing at Ultra-

Tiesto and electronic pioneers Kraftwerk are the headliners for the Friday night show along with big names like Pretty Lights, New Order, and Groove Armada will be playing a DJ set.

Justice, Avicii headline Saturday’s show.  Fatboy Slim, Duck Sauce (how can you not like their super fun track “Barbara Streisand?”, M83, and DJ Shadow is in line to make a guest appearance.

Sundays finale features David Guetta, Armin Van Buren as headline acts with Ultra’s heavyweight act Kaskade as well as Bass Nectar, and also appearing is one of our favorites- Flying Lotus.

A very cool thing about Ultra is their ECO Village.  It is an area “dedicated to the exposure and understanding of numerous non-profit organizations and charities…”  Anything that promotes dance music AND brings more awareness to good causes is quite alright in my book.

Even though the weather may feel tropical this spring (it definitely is here in the Midwest where I live), it is still not the same as actually being in beautiful Miami alongside thousands of dance music lovers.  So if you can make it and can get a ticket, go and enjoy!  Ultra runs from Friday, March 23rd through Sunday the 25th.
