As a dude who lived in London during the advent of soulful house, 2-step, and then grime, it’s amazing to see some of these producers not only rise up from the underground, but cross over to North American audiences in the process. There are acts like Katy B, SBTRKT, and even younger ones like Jamie XX and James Blake (who opened the door for all of this in my opinion,) that pave the way for artists like Jessie Ware to get some shine.
Ware, a frequent fixture on the 2-step and pirate radio scene gained fame from being featured on SBTRKT’s latest album and her brilliant collaboration with Sampha, titled “Valentine.” Ware is coming into her own with this latest release with her SBTRKT collaborator titled “Numbers.”
Ware is definitely less pop than the woman she will most be compared to: Katy B. However, Ware has crafted another lane, with her house inspired vocals. But it’s tracks like the again BRILLIANT Valentine and “Strangest Feeling,” prove that she’s not another hook girl. Check it.
