Album Preview: Mark de Clive-Lowe – Renegades

A true musical genius takes you on journey across all genres of music, and this is exactly what a producer named Mark deClive aka MdCL takes you through on his album.  Though what else would should one expect from a producer who has worked with a wide range of artist from Jody Watley to Jill Scott to the incomparable Chaka Khan to the late great legend himself Michael Jackson.  The album opens giving you a familiar sound of music that you may hear in any of the After Dark series with a hint of Zap Mama, and smoothly evolves into a relaxing yet energetic vibe which includes the  smooth vocals  of Nia Andrews,Tawiah,Sandra Nkake and Ovasoul 7.

The album transitions perfectly from lounge to funk, making me instantly fall in love with it’s production. The vocals lend themselves to a cool melodic sick beat that can place you in the right vibe, whether in a lounge decompressing after a long days work  or getting in a touch or romance with your significant other. The rhythmic risk taken are not overtly thrown in your face, but at the same time remind you that your ears have never experienced such mind boggling sounds by one world’s most renowned producers among us today. It’s only fitting that this eargasmic perception of sound comes from a sound artist who hails from  New Zealand and now is living in a Los Angeles. If you’ve never heard of MdCL, I guarantee you’ve heard his music, and loved it.
