LATE PASS: Gotye – Somebody That I Used To Know Feat. Kimbra
by Yvette Travillian
This song has been circulating on the cusp of my radar for a couple of months, but I’ve never really given it a fair listen until this past weekend. Maybe because I have now passed ‘dire’ – and escalated to ‘desperate’ – when it comes to needing sounds , is the reason I’ve finally openly listened to this? Or maybe it’s because this track has such a great-at ease- late 70’s/80’s type feel to it, that I just had no choice to chill out and enjoy it (despite it’s rather sad post-break-up lyrics)?
Gotye (aka Walter De Backer) is a Belgian born, Australian raised multi-instrumentalist, who’s been putting out music for almost a decade. “Somebody That I Used To Know” co-features the awesome vocals of Melbourne’s Kimbra; and his newest album Making Mirrors is set to drop sometime this week. I am definitely intrigued and eager to hear more.
Sidenote: This video is kinda weird… But Gotye and Kimbra’s vocals (as well as the the hook) are pretty amazing.
