Things have taken an interesting turn in the UK Hip-Hop scene lately. Artists such as Tinie Tempah have been topping the charts but it seems like the underground (home of such outstanding artists as Roots Manuva and Ty) has been in flux, in search of someone to carry the torch. Honestly, I haven’t heard any good underground UK hip-hop in a while until I stumbled upon Ghostpoet. The London-based MC (originally from Coventry) conveys the grimy, cloudy nature of inner city UK–a voice that seems to be missing of late. His latest project, Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam is in stores now on Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Recordings.
