Y’all know that we’re huge fans of Quadron, so it’s no question that we would automatically be biased toward this new track from Coco that dropped this week. Sleep finds her eschewing her more electronic sounds of Quadron for the traditional ones of a live band (which she plays in!). Either way the track is downright gorgeous.

Premiering on Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Radio show last week, the track contains heavy elements of Deniece William’s 1976 track “Free,” but not a cover nor does it sound like a sample.

The tracks is the second leak off of Homebase NYC’s Live From The Clubhouse EP which is already shaping up to be one of the best releases of 2011. Check out their first leak from NY rapper Homeboy Sandman as well.

Coco’s song is absolute PERFECTION. Love how she didn’t actually ‘sample’ or ‘cover’ Denise Williams’ “Free” – which is a classic. But if there was anyone who could properly sample it , that person would be Coco. Five star song!

I love Quadron esp. their clever use of samples which don’t sound like sample at all! They def sampled in ‘Slippin’ esp. the hook starting at 0:48. Can anyone remember the name of the song? I was around in the 70′s and 80′s and I think it is from one of these decades. Fleetwood Mac? Prince? Paula Abdul? I just can’t remember and its bugging me.

    Thanks if you know.
