According to RCRD LBL, The Bees’ recent discovery of the “psychedelic ayahuasca plant” has broadened their horizons. Though I don’t know what ayahuasca is, except for a quick Google search indicating it’s an indigenous herbal mixture from South America, “Winter Rose” is supposed to be the product of that psychedelic experience and one of three remixes to come out on a single by the same name on Dec. 20.
The original “Winter Rose” comes off their recently released fourth album, “Every Step’s a Yes”, but is here remixed by Tim Goldsworthy, who layers electronic funky dance rhythms over the indie reggae track. The end product is an ethereal landscape with elongated keyboard taps, melancholic vocals and, of course, cowbell. Play it, digest it and then find out where you can order some ayahuasca and get back to me.
