This Saturday night, Baltimore’s legendary Deep Sugar party hosts a legend in the truest sense of the term. New York City born, he was raised as a DJ in the epicenter of the development of disco. His influence is still heard to this day in productions and remixes heard and appreciated worldwide. In speaking with Frankie, you get a sense of the living history of a sound that is ubiquitous with the progression of dance music as a cultural development point.

In 35 minutes, I discuss with Frankie his humble beginnings as a disco DJ at the Continental Baths with later DJ legend and garage music founder at the Paradise Garage Larry Levan. We discuss the history of his time in Chicago as well, and the early days as a house DJ, and the development of ambiance and feel in nightclubs.. Furthermore, we touch on Knuckles’ feelings regarding song production and remixing, song production and remixing and it’s link to his history as a student of fashion design, and the current nature of being a dance producer and remixer with digital developments in the industry. Furthermore, some of his legendary tracks, including but not limited to his remixes of First Choice’s “Let No Man Put Asunder” and Michael Jackson’s “Rock With You” are discussed with great depth.
