Will DC ever become a Fashion Capital?
Honestly, who cares? Sure, we might not ever be on the level of a New York, Paris, or Milan, but last Thursday night was evident that DC is home to a burgeoning and supportive fashion community. The capacity crowd in Adams Morgan proves that we don’t have to look afield for high end fashion. We have something special right here in DC.
As always, the latest iteration of ReadySetDC’s Fashion District is a celebration of what we can find in our Nation’s Capital. Designers included Mercedes Bien Vintage, ARTAYA, De*Nada, Derringer Friday, Durkl, Ginger Root, and Rue 14, and included a pop up shop upstairs in the cavernous Adams Morgan yoga space, as well as a fashion show, the main event, downstairs.
Stepping out to a musical soundtrack by BLUEBRAIN and Matthew Hemerlein, DC’s designers strutted their their latest Fall and Winter fashions.
You know what’s great about our community here in DC? Everyone came out to support. It was all love in the building. Unlike some fashion circles, the cutthroat mentality was left at home. You know what else was great? As someone who believes that a community can only thrive if we create rather than consume, it was a pleasure seeing DC’s finest prove to the world that we are indeed a fashion district.
