Inner City Bootleg Vol. 2 – Kayo

Most remix projects start off already behind the 8 ball with me, especially if I liked the original beats. When all the “Rainbow” remixes dropped (all the remixes to Jay’s “The Black Album”) they were all cool, but let’s be real…did ANYONE come with a better beat for “PSA”, “Lucifer” “What More Can I Say” “99 Problems” or “Dirt Off Your Shoulder”? Naw…they didn’t. But I still like to check for these projects to hear another cat’s interpretation of an artist’s song.

So in steps Kayo, a producer from France who drops his “Inner City Bootleg Volume 2″ remix project. The intro “Inner City Blues Part 4″ to the project is a beautiful instrumental that sets the tone for the rest of the project. Erykah Badu’s “Real Thang” is given a brand new hip hop feel to it and Ed OG’s “Sayin Something” gets a jazzy facelift to chill out to. Jay Z’s “Song Cry” gets remixed soulfully and “Roc Boys” gets “primo’d” up. Other remixes included in the project are Lone Catalyst’s “World Famous”, Smif n Wessun’s “Crystal Stair” and Kev Brown and Cy Young’s “Get Up” but my favorite moments on “Inner City Bootleg Vol. 2″ are Kayo’s instrumentals because they stand by their selves with no previous tracks to compare them to. This is a solid follow up to Kayo’s “Inner City Bootleg Vol. 1″ that had over 5,000 downloads and should definitely put Kayo on your radar as one of the next producers to check for.
