This is a track off of the just-released Strange Games & Funky Things Volume 5, Compiled by DJ Spinna & BBE Soundsystem. I love the audacity and honesty of the lyrics: “Find ‘em, fool ‘em, forget ‘em, is my philosophy/’Cause ain’t no one girl gonna make a fool out of me./’Cause I’ll take their minds and turn them all around/And just when they’re about to fall in love with me, I put them down…coooo-o-o-old!” He also warns of not only stealing girls’ hearts, but breaking them soon after. Is it misogynistic as all get-out? Heck yeah! Should anyone be offended? Heck no! It’s easy to tell that this song was made in pure braggadocious jest.
To crate diggers into rare 70’s soul and funk grooves, this is straight ear candy. The production, which includes the pre-requisite violin and vibraphone, is slick, sweet, and simple. This song is another fine example of why readers and listeners like you appreciate the type of music that you do now. I really wish that radio had given this song a chance back in the day. Yet, it is still a part of our 70’s soul/funk legacy, of which we can all be proud.
