DC Native (now Brooklyn livin’) Oddisee has been on a role lately. Not only is he the driving force behind the beats of the increasingly popular Diamond District crew, but he has also released some stellar solo work, including the Traveling Man LP which dropped earlier this year.
And Odd has struck gold again with DC soul crooner Olivier DaySoul. This might be, hands down, the best male R&B release I’ve heard all year. DaySoul certainly has everything you need to be a soul superstar, but it’s Oddisee’s beats–slightly off kilter yet completely accessible–which set this project apart. With R&B today it seems like stuff is either too bland and by the numbers, or too left field. Like that last bowl of porridge, this project feels just right. Enjoy.
