First off, did Charlie Wilson just straight up crash at ‘Ye’s studio for the past year. It seems like the soul legend has been on every Kanye track that’s dropped so far. Comedy aside, it’s good to see the legend back in full form.
You know who else is in full form here? Mos Def. The rapper feels at home on this track, rapping over a 90s esque hip-hop beat that’s just vintage enough for his vocals to accompany. In fact, this is probably one of the best Mos verses I’ve heard in a long time.
Kanye’s verses on these tracks are getting rather annoying, and I’m almost preferring him as a singer/emo guy to rapper these days. However, ‘Ye does get the choice line of the song: “If I’m a douche then put me in your couchie.” Brilliant.
Can someone edit this track to remove Swizz Beatz verse? It’s almost like an ACME Anvil that’s bringing the whole track down. You can tell that Mr. Beatz is not a rapper, because he’s trying to imitate Rick Ross real hard. Go take care of your future kid, Swizz.
Things get better when Raekown gets on the mic, and if you thought that Mos Def was dope on 90s era East Coast Beats, Raekown gets even more in form, bringing a heavy dose of nostalgia and making us glad that he decided to make a comeback.
To be honest, I’m not really a fan of these G.O.O.D. Friday leaks. Yes, I’m in the minority, cause the Internets are going nuts, but these tracks lack the quality and poise that West has been known for, and come off as throwaway songs that will be forgotten by next Friday. It’s sad, because tracks like Lord Lord Lord have a great foundation and could’ve been on someone’s album if they mastered it right.
