The Knocks – When You’ve Got Music
Some say that New York has fallen off when it comes to dropping innovative music, and that might be true. (The most innovative dude that dropped this year is from South Carolina). However, NYC is still pushing the concept of music forward, thanks to production teams like The Knocks. The duo, comprised of Ben “B-Roc” Ruttner and James “JPatt” Patterson have gaining recognition because of their massive catalog of remixes of everyone from Wale to the Jackson Five.
But it’s their original music that caught my eye. The lo-fi throwback track “When You’ve Got Music,” is like a clash of Muscle Shoals soul with the vibe of the Beach Boys and the even more summery song “Make It Better,” the title track off of their EP.
The group, named for the neighbors who would knock on their door during recording sessions at their home studio, will be playing NYU with Big Boi on September 7th. (via Brooklyn Vegan)
