To be honest not too much has been happening down here in New Zealand in the last few months since my last post. However, the cold winter hasn’t been able to stop me letting these recently released videos go under my radar.
Firstly, after the success of Hollie Smith’s first single Mamma, the video to her second single Hiding from her sophomore album, Humour and the Misfortune of Others, was released last month. Hollie has definitely become more comfortable in front of the camera since her first album with each video seeing her lose her inhibitions more and more, I only wish her album had seen her lose herself a bit more also, I can’t help but feel she still held back on Humour and the Misfortunes of Others.
New Zealand’s biggest indie powerhouse right now, The Naked and Famous, have released yet another banger of a single in Punching in A Dream. Not quite as good as Young Blood but still a great tune and no doubt will start climbing the NZ charts in the next few weeks. Their debut album, Passive Me Aggressive You drops on September 6th in NZ, definitely a release I’m looking forward to. Be on the lookout for these guys, my pick is, they’ll be the biggest act to come out of NZ on the international circuit in 2011.
