Upstate New York duo Phantogram has been getting steady buzz as of late. They’re sound can only be described as “post-trip-hop” (let me stop), with their atmospheric sound hearkening back to the music of the mid-90s. But as trip-hop has sounded dated of late, Phantogram does not. The atmospheric guitars and buzzing beats are inspired just as much from their predecessors as it takes from more modern electro and trillwave vibes.
This beat almost screams hip-hop, and could easily be something you could see Madlib or Flying Lotus create. It’s hands down one of the best instrumentals I’ve heard this year and is ready made for an MC to rap over. Check it. (via The Maroon Cafe)
