I love it when soulful voices cover indie rock and this Interpol cover by Harlem’s Azealia Banks is no exception. One of the first things that strikes me is the range of her voice and maturity for someone who is only 18(!). But her versatility must also be noted. She’s more known as an MC than a singer, as her freestyles have been gaining recondition on the NYC underground scene.

But it’s this Interpol cover that demonstrates her maturity and I prefer it over her more hip-hop material. Either way, big up to another talented young female to drop from the NYC scene. Looking for big things from her soon. Could we be looking at the next Janelle Monae? Possibly. (via FADER)

The next Janelle Monae? C’mon really… she’s like 3 albums deep of which, only one was a major release and one was just an EP/Suite. I was immediately enthralled about Janelle’s work on The Audition, however, I think it is far, far, far too early to suggest that any artist can be the next version of an emerging artist.

A better link might be a dream collaboration or a suggested tour mate, when she begins her FIRST headline tours soon. Seductive voice, no doubt. but…I’m just sayin’
