One of the most intriguing R&B releases this year has to come from the UK’s Andreya Triana. Her newest album, Lost Where I Belong drops in the UK this week and is hands down some of the best soul music you’ll hear this year. A mainstay on the amazing Ninja Tune label, the versitle artist has worked with such Bonobo, Mr. Scruff, and Flying Lotus.
Production on the album is handled by Ninja Tune’s Bonobo, and he’s able to carve out some classic soul while maintaining modern British influences. There is no lofty production here, as he crafts every instrumental on the 37 minute album around Andreya’s raspy vocals.
Let’s face it, the Brits have been doing soul better than Americans this past decade, and Ms. Triana is no exception. Lost Where I Belong drops in the US on September 7th on Ninja Tune and is out in the UK right now.
