Thanks to Dr. Dre and Lady GaGa, the headphone market has been gaining steam in the past few years. Once only relegated to DJs and audiophiles, high-end ear huggers have hit the mainstream.
Started in 2003, Skullcandy began designing headphones for the “active sports” market but it’s the urban market that has shown the brand its most potential growth. Their NBA licensed headphones are all sold out and their Roc Nation inspired devices appear to do the same.
The stylish design of of the Roc Nation pieces (especially the brown one below) can definably get you noticed. The “aviator” style mixes old school chic with modern touches.
Is it style over sound? Who knows. Skullcandy’s striking design (and lower price point) will definitely sell more than enough units. (via Buzz Beast).
