Most of y’all know that I’m a huge fan of Florence and the Machine. The London singer to me is the 2010 re-incarnation of Kate Bush (kids, Google her), and I’m glad that they are finally making a push for her in the States. Her brand of introspective, yet upbeat pop music is what America needs right now. Yeah, I said it!
One of the things that has endeared me to Florence is her love of R&B covers. She recently recorded a cover of Mario’s “I Don’t Wanna Know,” for Billboard.com’s excellent Mashup Mondays series (it’s about time the US has something comparable to BBC’s Live Lounge), and I uncovered this promo that she did for Myspace UK last year where she vibes out to En Vogue. I love how she completely strips down the production on the Mario song, making it a indie acoustic soul joint. R&B covers album? Pretty please? (big ups to The Maroon Cafe for the find)
