Today would have been Marvin Gaye’s 71st birthday, a day which is always met with a sense of irony considering yesterday was the 26th anniversary of his death. No matter what generation you grew up in, Marvin’s impact continues to be felt throughout the music community from here in the States to all over the world.
Born and raised in DC, the coolest R&B brotha ever was consider by many to be the perfect package; he was enormously talented, good looking and had gear so ill that it is still emulated by dudes today.
His music, which is still eerily relevant to what’s going on NOW, has transcended four different decades and left an impact that is incomparable. Although he will always be missed, his legacy will forever live on and that alone is a reason to celebrate.
