If you don’t think that Quincy Jones is the man then you might want to log off the internet right now.
Q has been in the industry for over 50 years and has over 79 Grammy nominations to his credit. He’s done everything from his trademark Soul Bossa Nova (which he completed at age 23!) to working with Ice T and Big Daddy Kane.
His newest album, Q: Soul Bossa Nostra is his first collaboration project since 1995’s Q’s Juke Joint, and features the likes of Akon, Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige, T-Pain, Robin Thicke, LL Cool J, John Legend, Snoop Dogg, Wyclef, Q-Tip and more. The first single is Akon’s take on The Brothers Johnson/Shuggie Otis 1977 hit Strawberry Letter 23.
I’m an Akon fan, but he does a really good job with this track. Q tastefully updated the 33-year old song, dropping only the slightest hints of Auto-Tune and crafting the re-work around the “convict’s” sound. Good looks.
Q: Soul Bossa Nostra drops in June.
