Trend 2 Watch: Tricked Out Shades

This shouldn’t even be a trend to watch because sunglasses or shades (whatever you want to call them) have been the must have accessory for quite a while.

For me it started with these Guess tortoiseshell sunglasses that were prescribed (I wear glasses for realz): I remember wearing them in the hallway at school when I was told (by a teacher) to take them off because I wasn’t ‘allowed to wear sunglasses in the hall’. Not believing that they were prescribed I was then asked to hand them over; but after checking them out they were handed back to me and I was on my way with shades on in the hallway – ha! From there it morphed into my obsession.

Forward it to 2010 and we now see it being taken to the next level with designers like 2BITCHES Deep (see pic up top), Kerin Rose, Maison Martin Margiela and Louis Vuitton (who has the Millionaire Shades)  introducing these new tricked out versions  that come in all kinds of odd shapes and sizes. Celebrities like Rihanna, Kid Cudi, Amber Rose and Lady GaGa have been spotted rocking a pair.

The eyes never lie. Whether you’re happy, sad, angry, drunk, or high, the eyes tell it all and this I why I think celebrities love wearing them so much:  They make you feel cool & protected and are able to hide whatever you’re feeling that day.

    Don’t understand why Mercura Sunglasses was not included!

    Out of time? Two or three of them look they are part of the Mercura line in the 1980’s. Some people say we are inspiring young artists, but most say young manufacturers going where the money is, duplicating work that is popular instead of thinking up their own. Our recent work is shown with couture clothes in mags around the world. Maybe you missed it, there is so much of it out there under other names in other places!
    It is a mistake to feel we are not going to be prolific for another 30 years, even if the originals we make cost more than the rip-offs!
