The Download: Valentine’s Day Mixes (or lack thereof)
by Winston "Stone" Ford
I’m not even going to lie, even though I’m “bunned up,” Valentine’s day is my least favorite holiday of the year. I remember dressing up in all black with 15 of my closest friends during my Freshman year of college in protest to a made up holiday. It’s all good tho. Evn though I was out of the pocket this weekend, I cannot forget the bevy of Valentine’s Day mixes that dropped over the weekend.
Luvstep – A Mix By Dirty South Joe and Flufftronix
I’ve been sitting on this mix for ages and I’m glad it’s seen the light of day. Quite simply, it’s the best dubstep mix I’ve heard in a while. Joe mixes romantic tracks from Dubstep masters Caspa, Rusko, Joker, as well as the famous Florence and the Machine/XX remix, in addition to one of my favorite dubstep mixes of all time: The Caspa remix of deadmau5’s “I Remember.” Also, best, trailer, evar.
Please Don’t Stare Presents…Anatomy of a Broken Heart
In time for the holiday, my fellow Connoisseur of Culture, DJ BenHaMeen does one not for the loves, honors our newly single brethren with this mix titled, Anatomy of a Broken Heart. He blends everything from D’Angelo, to Platinum Pied Pipers, to Portishead into one of the best compilations you’ll hear on the Internet.
DCtoBC Presents…Singes Awareness Day
S.A.D. or Singles Awareness Day is the theme for my homie Modi’s mixtape which, in its second season, is better than the first. From Modi:
It’s here. Dedicated to all maneaters, heartbreakers, and hopeless romantics – you know who you are. Proceed to download. It’s an epic one, I think.
I appreciate all the support greatly. Like the last one, there’s no playlist. 38 songs, all different artists, and all in the theme of the mixtape’s title in some way, shape, or form.
