The Horrors, “Sea Within a Sea”

Best song of the year. Confessedly wasn’t my #1 in my year’s I Heard It On Top 5 because I forgot about it.

Céu, Vargarosa

Found this through‘s Chuck P. Have this album on heavy rotation. Samba with a 70s lounge vibe. Sexy with an edge. “Rosa Menina Rosa” is a gem of a lullaby.

The Noisettes, Mick Boogie & Terry Urban Present WILD YOUNG HEARTBREAK

Kanye West x The Noisettes24 Winters

[audio:|titles=03 24 Winters (Matt Friedman of ILLFONICS Remix)]

Mixed the best of Kanye’s 808s and the rising stars in the Noisettes.

“24 Winters” is my highlight – “We were lovers/24 hours ago” is too true too often, and Shingai Shoniwa’s winsome repeated wail of it hits that point home.

Florence + the Machine, “You’ve Got the Love (XX remix)”

Florence and the Machine made a subtler entrance than The xx did in 2009. But they’re both stars, and there’s a synergy here that blooms in a harp-led soundscape.

My recommendation? The better the headphones (e.g., Dr. Dre Beats), the more you learn about how special this remix is.

Theophilus London, Pull My Heart Away Remix (Prod by Jamie of The XX)

Sorry for The xx redundancy, but Theophilus London was a star in 2009, and the world is just learning how much of a star he was.

He owned in 2009. And we were thrilled to find him.
