For a lot of people, Gil Scott-Heron flies under their radar. Although Heron came of age during the days of Curtis Mayfield, Marvin Gaye, and Issac Hayes, his poitnant tales of inner-city life weren’t “pop” enough to break onto the US Mainstream. However, tracks like “Winter In America,” and “The Bottle,” are some of the most touching and real songs you will ever hear. His legacy is still celebrated in the underground, and he is hugely popular in the UK and Europe.
Despite the “underground” title, the 60 year old Heron is set to drop his 18th (yes, 18th!) album this year, titled I’m New Hear, via the venerable XL Recordings. The video for his excellent single, Me And The Devil just dropped last week. Check it:
