BLACKsummersnight by Maxwell
Overall, the album is outstanding, from the orchestration to the lyrics … but Maxwell’s unique live performances makes you appreciate this album (and the 3 others) even more!
Mos Def feat Talib Kweli – ‘History’
Oh nostalgia …Nothing beats a Blackstar Reunion on a J Dilla beat! Kweli and Mos Def are surely the “best alliance in Hip Hop” and Dilla, need I say more?
Siriusmo – ‘High Together’
I discovered German DJ & Producer Siriusmo earlier this year and man I love him, ‘High Together’ is one my coup de coeur in terms of Electronic music … also liked ‘Anyway’ by Duck Sauce aka Atrak + Armand van Helden but then again, this is a dance track 🙂
Raphael Saadiq (featuring Joss Stone) – “Just One Kiss”
Saadiq’s ‘The Way It Is’ is a pure jewel, I’ve been a fan forever and it seems to me that his keeps getting better and better. Joss Stone’s strong vocals, Saadiq’s smooth delivery, the orchestration give the track all the elements of a classic love song
Solange – ‘ Stillness in the move’
Miss Knowles’ take on The Dirty Projectors track is certainly surprising and a pure delight to the hear.
“Bumpy’s Lament” has been sampled by Dre who was sampled by Badu and now Solange. I really appreciate her effort to bring all these different elements and influences together.
