Janelle Monae has been musical visionary of mine ever since she dropped that track “Time Will Reveal” off of that Got Purp compilation way back in the day. I’m glad that Ms Monae (who is known to read the site from time to time) is putting out new music, this time through the Kia Soul Collective.

The track, Come Alive (The War of the Roses), is a dope rendition with obvious influences from Violent Femmes’ Blister In The Sun. I hope to hear more music from Ms. Monae in the future. Talent like this should not sit on the shelf.

“Talent like this should not sit on the shelf” << Second this, she is a talent!

My brother. B-52’s “Rock Lobster.” The bassline is almost a direct rip. She’s from ATL. It’s an homage to the Atlanta punk and alt-rock scene of the early 80s, totally. Violent Femmes? Maybe, but no. Far more ATL history based.

Janelle Monae is truly a beast of an artist. I love how comfortable and free she is with her imagination. I really enjoy this song. I can’t wait for her new album to come out!!
