Jahdan Blakkamoore – Best I Ever Had Freestyle
You might know Jahdan Blakkamoore from Diplo and Switch’s Major Lazer project, but the dude and his fellow Dutty Artz crew have been destroying Brooklyn with their Brooklyn Tropical parties for a while now (seriously, these parties are the look. I’m heading up there soon for a firsthand experience.)
As an associate of 77 Klash (a dude that you’re STILL SLEEPING ON), Jahdan combines everything from dancehall, to UK 2-Step, to dubstep, cambia, and everything in between, and their “tropical dubstep” has a more international sound than anything coming out of America today.
I recently got a chance to hear the advance of Blakk’s album, Buzzrock Warrior and I have to say, it’s one of the most impressive releases that I’ve heard all year. Don’t get it twisted, the album has lots of pop sensibilities and is one of the most accessible dubstep albums that I’ve ever heard. As The Fader puts it, Warrior “possesses all of dubstep’s buzzy bass lines but none of its conventions,” and I have to agree. The tracks, like “Long Road” are sprinkled with enough ‘step to keep the purists happy and but won’t scare the mainstream off the dancefloor.
Jahdan’s debut album, Buzzrock Warrior drops on September14th. Check him out at his MySpace.
