People Under the Stairs – Letter to the Bronx
If you happen to live in Tennessee, or wouldn’t mind a road trip starting on Thursday (Jun 11), pop you’re head into Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival to see the west coast B-boys of People Under The Stairs. Having been a fan of PUTS for almost 8yrs, I can say that they are consistently authentic. The Cali duo of Thes One and Double K, produce nothing less in their latest album Fun DMC (released, Sep. 2008). Always up on their creative game, Fun DMC offers listeners humorous anecdotes and parables of every day life and how to not only survive it, but celebrate it.
The free track off the album was “Anotha (BBQ),” but my favorite track is “Letter to the c/o of the Bronx” an ode to the forefathers of hip hop. Here PUTS managed to maintain their sound, while adding a layer of boom-bap resulting in a chill 2 min. of appreciation. Fun DMC isn’t my favorite album of theirs, I’m not sure if it’s because I’ve changed and they haven’t or vice versa. Regardless, they’ll be performing these tracks, as well as old favorites befitting the crowd (i.e. Acid Raindrops). If they perform one of my favorites, “Blowin’ Wax” can someone record it on your iphone/blackberry/dictaphone and send me the soundbyte?? Otherwise, get lost in the vibe of west coast meets southern hospitality.
