Illa JSounds Like Love featuring Debi Nova

Illa JDFTF featuring Affion Crockett

My friend was telling me that Illa J’s Yancey Boys was one of the most slept on album of 2008. I haven’t gotten around to checking the full album, but the tracks I’ve heard so far have been pretty good so far. The debut album from J Dilla’s 21 year old brother, who we first caught wind of when he rapped on Dilla’s posthumous album The Shining which dropped in 2006.

Yancey, who took over his brother’s LA studio, raps over some rare and unreleased Dilla beats. Illa got the under appreciated Debi Nova for the track, “Sounds Like Love,”  and Affion Crockett on the smoothed out “DFTF,” my favorite track that I’ve heard so far. The tracks I’ve heard are promising. What do y’all think?
