the rhythm roots all stars are one of those live hip hop projects that personifies all the reasons why live hip hop isn’t always terribly that exciting….especially in DC. its like our live urban music bar is set pretty high around these parts. whether go-go, or punk rock or even theivery’s global grooves - you can’t just come to dc with a b-grade out of town stoner meta hip hop ensemble hitting known breaks and sample covers like your doing big things. it falls flat.

dont get me wrong,. its was a lil exciting watching them last year with ghost and rakim…but shit, imagine them rocking with Backyard.

I don’t know which Rhythm Roots All Stars you saw, but the boys that came to Boulder killed it. Their opening set was phenomenal and their live backing was crazy good for all artists. Granted, their percussion section is really the catalyst of the group, but overall it was awesome. Plus, the Fox got the only encore of the tour so far (nasty!), thanks to the drummer keeping the crowd riled up at the end. I’ve never been to DC but if RRAS is b-grade out there then I’ll have to come see the a-plus shit.
