Detroit MC Elzhi, who Rome blogged about before, is best known for replacing J Dilla in Slum Village. However, the the dude has been simmering in the Detriot underground, dropping 2 solo EPs as well as a European tour CD this year. Even though he’s been on the mic since 1999, 2008 is pinned as his breakout year, all due to his upcoming album titled The Preface.

The Preface, built approaitely around Motown samples, is produced almost entirely by rising hip-hop producer Black Milk (aka the next Dilla) and features Royce Da 5’9, Guilty Simpson, and T3 (Slim Village).

The Preface is in stores now.

Elzhi definitely wins “Most Improved MC” since Vol. 1 (yes – the award does not go to “Weezy”). But, Stone…Black Milk the next Dilla? He got some growing to do on that one IMHO…
