Scheme: Do you think that because you’re in the hip-hop genre, people are more closed-minded about where you take your music?
Questlove: Oh yeah. People have low expectations for hip-hop and hip-hoppers. That’s why they look at as us being pretentious. Why do I have to be the only person that explains why I name my albums after book titles? I understand that sometimes people need things spoon fed to them, but I have a low tolerance for ignorance.
Scheme Magazine is my new favorite site right now (and it’s based in DC, not Brooklyn like I originally thought. DC STAND UP!) and they have one of the best interviews I’ve seen from Questlove in a long time. Check it.
