Darfur Now College Tour

The Darfur region of Sudan is locked in a civil war which has resulted in the deaths of over 400,000 people and led to the displacement of 2.5 million people from their homes.. Unfortunately, however, this genocide has not garnered any substantial media attention in the United States, and the international response to this crisis (from NATO, the UN, and the US) has been tepid at best.

STAND and the Genocide Intervention Network have produced a documentary with Participant Media, titled Darfur Now, that highlights the struggle in that region through the eyes of different individuals on the ground in Sudan. From Hollywood Celebrities (Don Cheadle) as well as community leaders and activists.

The Darfur Now College tour is going to colleges across the country offering not only a free screening of the film, but free performances from such acts as Janelle Monae, Goapele, Zion I, Anthony David, Wale, and The Cool Kids.

Nas - Be a Nigger Too

Nas - Be a Nigger Too

I don’t know if this is the first track off of Nas’ upcoming album, Nigger (highly unlikely), but it does seem like Nasir is bringing the pain with this one.

Come On Jayson

http://www.theboombox.com/2008/04/1…rs-are-for-you/

In the June issue of XXL magazine, troubled rapper the Game breaks down, in an interview that was conducted three days before starting a 60-day bid for a gun violation. “My life is f—ed up right now,” he says. “I’m in a f—ed up place. My fans love me, and I know what they want but in a minute, I’m not gonna be physically capable of pleasing the world with music. Because my mind isn’t right. People are driving me under God’s good earth.”

Later in the article, the self-proclaimed “Doctor’s Advocate,” who has since become alienated from his former mentor Dr. Dre, his brother and role model Big Fase 100 and of course 50 Cent and G-Unit, shares his suicidal thoughts. “Sometimes I wanna be at peace so bad that I wish myself off of the earth,” he says.

“I am the nobody in hip-hop,” he continues. “I sleep where I can. I’ll take a blanket if you got one. I’m homeless in hip-hop.” It’s a shame he feels so itinerant. At the same time, rocking a late-in-the-game bro-hawk isn’t exactly furthering his cause (see the XXL cover for evidence).

The article ends with Game breaking down in tears, ala DMX, but apparently he weeps as much for his love of the culture as he does because he’s completely out of his mind. “The tears coming from my left eye are from my s#!t that I’m dealing with in my life,” he says “and the tears down my right cheek are tears for hip-hop.”

So the gangsta waterfalls pouring down Game’s butterfly weird LA symbol/random red star are for you rap music. Good luck with that.
