New Music: Bullets Over Romance
by Winston "Stone" Ford
Back in November ago at a Throwdown Syndicate show, Eric Brookins and Julian Weaver, mutual friends who I knew through Betts and Omegaband, connected with me about a musical collaborations that they were gonna do together. So of course the interest of yours truly perked. At that time we exchanged emails, etc, but I never heard from them since.
Juilian emailed me last week to tell me that the fruits of their labor are finally taking shape, in the form of Bullets over Romance. The duo is fronted by Eric with Julian on beats. Right now, they’re still in the recording process, but should be playing gigs sometime this Summer.
I know I’m a bit biased, but this is some damn good music. Of course, its not the easiest to classify–“Last Call For Love’s soulful vocals over an upbeat Stax-era guitar riff sounds more like Gnarls Barkley, while “Don’t Ask Why” is the complete opposite. It’s definitely not hip-hop, but it’s not quite soul. Sounds like its going to be an interesting ride.
Let me know what y’all think….
