New Ludacris - Girls Gone Wild

Ludacris - Girls Gone Wild (snippet)

powered by ODEO

I was disappointed with the first Neptunes/Luda collaboration single, “Moneymaker,” because honestly, I know that Luda is better than some watered down McDonald’s flavored club track. And the Neptunes almost sounded like they needed to be added next to a Wikipedia entry for “fallin’ off.” But this track, “Girls Gone Wild,” is better, if not outright amazing. Luda’s lyrics are still pretty damn watered down (What is up with this Luda?), but at least the Neptunes came to play the second time around. I don’t know what to think about Luda’s next album, because every album he makes is not as good as the one before it, and from this first two singles this one is probably not going to be an exception.

Album Preview: K-OS - Atlantis

Update: The Seekwill is actually the first track off Atlantis. I removed the MP3 link and put the video link above. This track is fire.

Two years ago, K-OS messed around and dropped one of my favorite albums. If you’re disillusioned with hip-hop in 2006 (dcfist?) then I suggest you check Joyful Rebellion. It’s just one of those albums that you can play from start to finish. In fact, you can play this album backwards and forwards for 5 days straight and not get tired of it. That is a definition of a true classic, my friends.

He’s back at it again with a new album entitled Atlantis, which drops in Canada on October 10th. The first single, “Sunday Morning,”leaked on his MySpace page this week. At first listen, it wasn’t a standout tune for me. But after repeated listens, it’s grown on me. It’s not a hip-hop track, but more of a pop dance track. Something that the Black Eyed Peas used to do well before they sold out. The hook it’s pretty damn catchy, and unlike some pop tracks (Sexyback, the abomination called Ring The Alarm) you can actually dance to this one.

If you don’t know who this dude is, then its not your fault. It took more than 2 years for JR to get released in the states. WTF is up with Canadian MC’s not getting any promotion in the US? It seems like UK MC’s get more play over here. Anyway, Big R at Surmish says he’s the B-boy version of Andre 3000. He reminds me more of Will.I.Am, or Wyclef, and not because they all look like they’re related. (Props: Surmish.com)

Random Ish: Friday, September 15th

esthero.jpg

Is it not ironic that the only artist that I’m really excited for at the Black Luv Festival is not black? Actually, I thought I was the only black person who liked Esthero until I saw her at the 9:30 club that time (didn’t realize Esthero fans were rowdy like that). But I digress. Oh, Asheru, Chuck Brown, and Afi are performing as well.

Speaking of DC. The only women I can get down with in this town are interns. There’s nothing wrong with that, but the working women in this town need to check themselves.

I was walking through Dupont Circle the other day, and saw sirens, and helicopters. I figured its just a typical day in DC, but no, they had all of these cops out there to shoot a dog. In the middle of Dupont Circle at 6 in the afternoon. WTF?

Oh, and ya’ll like the podcast apparently. TCS just doubled our podcast subscribers in the past month. Expect more Podcast-wise soon.

Apple is making moves as always. iTunes 7 is a much needed update and they dropped not only an 80GB iPod, but a new Nano and shrunk the size of the shuffle again. They started selling movies on iTunes, but it ain’t worth it for $9.99. Wait until they drop the new video iPod at least.

Oh, and ABC is offering the season finale of Lost on iTunes for FREE. Get it while you can.

RIP Steve Irwin, September 11th Victims

Anyway, I’m out for the weekend. Peace.

Nicolay = The Largest Ipod Ever Built

nicolay.jpg

Nicolay is tall. I mean, the dude is basketball player tall. Yes, everyone is pretty much tall next to me, but good lawd, the dude is huge. I just had to get that out of the way.

The Dutch master was in DC for the Here album release party at Anzu in Adams Morgan. I wasn’t going to go initially, because dammit I gotta work, but relented at the last moment, probably because my only other option was to sit at home and watch Pinky and the Brain on DVD.

Sadly though, the event was nothing special. I know that listening parties are just for that…to listen. But geez, can ya’ll have a little more excitment in DC? As a “laid back” producer, Nicolay is never known for bringing the party atmosphere, but good lawd, if you’re a fan of underground hip-hop then you should’ve been going crazy last night. The whole thing reminded me of a high school dance, albeit with posers standing on the walls trying to look cool. Of course, coming from the South, where we have that “drop it like its hot” philosophy of partying, I’m not really surprised.

With the crowd not getting into it, the fact that Nicolay was spinning ended up being a non issue with me. Yes, it’s a listening party, but you could’ve dropped his album on an iPod and had the same effect. Instead of having him spin, the Living Room Group (the people who put on the party) should’ve had him work the crowd and drum up interest for the album instead.

Speaking of the album, the tracks I heard from Here were pretty good. I havne’t been able to get my hands on the full album (BBE get at me), but Here looks to be a solid release. I hope to have a review real soon.

Lupe Goes After Bol

lupel.jpg

First it was Bun B, and now Lupe Fiasco is trying to go at Bol in his guest blog at XXL. In the blog entitled “Lupe Fiasco Presents…Byron Crawford is a bitch ass nigga!“, the Chicago MC regurgitates every line that people have used to criticize Bol for the past 2 years.

Most of your dribble and banter is based on your own ignorant opinions and lacking ability to say anything credible or of any substance…Critique technical points on the album or a nigga energy at a live show or something that is “ABLE” to be critiqued. The shit you say is no different than a hating-ass chat room poster who just talks to get attention…Stop being a black Bill O’Reilly!!!…Bitch ass nigga…

I remember when Bol was just a random blogger who left random ass comments on my old site when he got drunk. Now the dude’s name is getting dropped by some of the biggest names in the industry. Crazy how the blog world is taking over. But when MC’s with record labels, go after Bol, they just validate him and his status. If the dude is just a “laptop nigga” like Bun B said, then what he says shouldn’t matter. You get what I’m sayin’?

I would rather have Lupe use his platform at XXL to talk about the your making your album, getting into the industry, or even a tour diary at the least. Lupe, you’re the most talented MC’s to come to hip-hop in the past decade (if you have a problem with that statement let me know in the comments), but going after Bol is an obvious move.

MP3 Download: The Couch Sessions Podcast - More Random Ish Podcast

A couple of yall are asking what happened to the interviews that we used to do for the Podcast. Well, what happened was, I took the summer off from doing interviews, and it’s been almost impossible to schedule artists for a sit down. I had to turn down a couple of major interviews because of scheduling conflicts on my part, and then I had some major artists either cancel or push their albums/pr back. Add to that, other artists that I’m playing phone/email tag with, and you got the idea.

Until, I get the interview thing straightened out, you have…..what….more Random Ish. Most of these songs have made its way onto the site, but since I’m still reeling from all the MP3s that I lost when my computer crashed, so what you see, is what you get. I went a little crazy on the Wale Oyejide (and butchered his name in the process), but I forgot how good that album was. Cop it.

  1. Marv Ellis and Cosmos - When It Hits
  2. DJ Shadow freaturing Phonte - Backstage Girl
