Random Ish: The SexyBack Edition

sexyback.jpg

Justin Timberlake - SexyBack

Not to get all pop on y’all but the new Justin Timberlake track leaked today, so I figured that I had to post as a public service of course. Damn….as my friend would say…”this shit is ill son, know what I’m sayin?” It almost SA-RAish, but still accessible for “the club.” And its a Timbo produced track, once again proving that Timbaland > Neputnes right now. Could Mr. Timberlake get his ghetto pass back?

Rome hit yall with the new Roots/Peedi Crack collabo that dropped last week. THIS is what the new Roots should sound like. The other single was eh……but if all of their tracks follow this formula then Game Theory could be album of the year.

Some more pop ish: The “lost” Nelly Furtado/Chris Martin/Timbaland collabo is out at Stereogum. This track made it to the album, but I guess the suits figured that Chris Martin would diminish Ms. Furtado’s ho cred. For cross-genre collabos, it’s a hot track, but I’m not gonna judge it beyond that.

And Outkast haters please shut up. They will never go back to their Southernplayalisticsoutherncadilakmuzik days so deal with it. If they fell off, please explain why they sold 10 5 million copies of their last album?

India.Arie is number one? I didn’t even know that she was dropping an album? Where have I been? I need to read Honey Soul more often :)
And I’m gonna hit you with some real obscure ish come next week. Watch out.

WTF is KFC doing? Is baby food the new thing now?

Black men quietly combating stereotypes. Ya think?
Stop snitching? DC anti-drug advocate/council canadiate’s car set on fire.
Oh, and is H Street NE supposed to be the new hotness?

The Next Hotness? Danny Swain

669753168_m.jpg

Danny Swain - Can’t Wait (Radio Edit)

Can we compare Danny Swain to Kanye? No. But its tempting. The South Carolina based producer/MC has a similar flow and style and he mimics the whole “college dropout” thing to a tee. However, he might have more “cred” in the backpack industry, because he actually got kicked out of college for a grade changing scandal. That’s gangsta right there.

Seriously though, this dude’s flow is sick. Unlike Kanye, he can actually rap. Add to that, the fact that the beats are better than anything that 9th Wonder has put out lately. Add to that the fact that he produced over 90% of the labum, and made the damn website. After dropping some EPs, playing off the whole Kanye theme (F.O.O.D. -Finding Out Our Destination and The College Kicked Out), Swain is coming out strong with the self-produced, self-promoted album Charm, which follows what his bio describes as a “up-and-coming rapper who looks to fame as a way to escape dismal reality.” Interesting.

Haven’t gotten my hands on Charm yet, but expect a full review soon.

Sony WTF?

So this isn’t exactly music related, but I thought it might be interesting to point out.

According to the internets there is more to the ad campaign than than the picture above. It’s for the new “white” PSP and it’s supposed to be fighting with the current “black” PSP. The “black” gets to choke the “white” PSP. Woo Hoo?? What do y’all think? (via Digg, PS Forum)

1xtra in “The States”

lon_elecx150.jpg

UK-based 1Xtra, the “New Black Music” side of the BBC broadcasting family is coming to “the States” in this month for a Month long promotional tour. 1Xtra personalities, Ronnie Herel, L Double, Robbo, and Semtex will be spinning, R&B, Drum and Bass, Dancehall/Soca, and Hip-Hop respectively.

So first off, I gotta say that 1Xtra is probably one of the best “Black Music” radio stations ever put on the face of this earth. I’ve been listening to this station online ever since it launched in ‘02. During the day, the play all the D4L mess, but their non-format shows are probably some of the best in the world. Its one of the few stations that would cover dirty south, grime, dancehall, and trip-hop in the same day. Also, their documentaries about urban life in the UK rival make it sound like the unofficial Black NPR.

Unfortunately, the aren’t hittin’ up DC or Baltimore, but if you’re in Atlanta, Houston, LA, or New York, be sure the check out the 1Xtra website for more information and club dates.

It’s Messed Up, I know

This site has been through hell and back.

On Monday, my Movable Type installation crashed.

On Tuesday, the computer with the backup Movable Type files crashed.

On Wednesday, I still couldn’t figure out what the hell happened to the site. But since Surfspeedy was messin’ up, I decided to switch webhosts and reinstall movable type. The site is still up, but people are starting to get suspicious. Get two emails from people who can’t post comments to the site.

On Friday, switched web hosts but new webhosts messes up with the domain registration.

Saturday/Sunday: The Couch Sessions goes dark. Me and my new web host don’t start off on good terms.

Monday: Another arguement with web host. Threaten street justice. Problem fixed.

I’m still trying to get everything back in order. I figured out how to transfer all of the posts and comments from the old MySQL database, but trackbacks are gone. Also, Authors and categories didn’t come over properly, so I have to manually fix them in the database.

Things should be back up and running sometime today.
