Beyonce feat Jay-Z: “Deja Vu”

beyonce_knowles.jpg

Beyonce feat Jay-Z - “Deja Vu”

Of course, this track is on every blog east of the Mississippi, but I figure I’ll provide a link as a public service for the 5% of y'all who hasn’trealized that Bey’s new single has leaked.

Somehow it reminds me of early 90s Brand New Heavies, but I can’treally explain why. (The Horn Section?). Jay phones in a verse for his girl from his office in midtown Manhattan, but for the most part his influence is minimal. It’s not a bad track, but its not gonna be a floor filler like “Crazy in Love.”

MP3 Download: The Couch Sessions Podcast - Camp Lo

Sonny Cheeba and Geechi Suede, better known as Camp Lo, have been pushing the limits of hip-hop since their formation in the Bronx circa 1995. Since then, the duo has dropped classics such as “Coolie High,” “Park Joint,” and of course, “Luchini.”

Since then, the duo has been laying low, splitting their time between their NY homebase and the more Southernly locations of Richmond, Virginia and North Carolina. Rome (from Better Than Yours) caught up with Cheeba and Suede as they were in the studio with 9th Wonder, cutting a new track for their comeback CD.

Intro Track
Shambhala - Full Moon Of The Tao (from The Lotus Of…)

Camp Lo - Black Connection (from Uptown Saturday Night)
Camp Lo - Gotcha (from Let’s Do It Again)

Kicked to da Curb

I hope y'all aren’tgoing to try and hit up Yuca tonight.

Cause they just got evicted. Not only that, but their ish got put out on the street like the baby daddy of a woman scorned.

0608yuca2.jpg

Notice that couch? That’s the same one from The Couch Sessions lounge that we sponsored at the Flow event back in February (you can kind of see it on the flyer). They threw out The Couch Sessions couch! WTF???

0608yuca3.jpg

Amd some more “only in DC ish:”

Making beeping noises, one guy pushed a dark-colored sofa down the sidewalk. But then another man claimed dibs on the couch, causing the first guy jab his finger menacingly at him and threaten to abscond with the couch if he walked away again. The second guy eventually dragged the sofa across the street with a friend’s help. Other folks drove off with potted palms and carried away bone-white saucers by hand.

Seeing some dude push a couch down 18th street “making beeping noises” in broad daylight is priceless.

Okay, so I don’twanna make light of a situation, but this is hands down one of the funniest things I've seen this week.

Random Ish: Thursday, June 8

Did you survive 666?

Congrats to Jon (winner of the Lady Sov Contest) and Kanessa (Leela James Contest winner). I’ll be getting in contact with y'all soon.

So I'm not lying when I said that Europe is the new Mississippi. They're straight up blatant about it too, putting up swastikas in football soccer stadiums and throwing ish at black players. Basically their advising all black and brown people not to go to the World Cup. I'm supposed to head out to the UK/Spain in Feb, but after this I might have to reconsider.

Sure, this chica who stole this chick’s phone is dumb, but the girl who posted all her information (address, email, AIM) and pictures is overreacting, don’tya think? Dallas Penn has the rundown.

Dayum! NYC gets all the cool shows. For free. But we knew that already.

McNair to Baltimore: I knew this was gonna happen. Once they got Vince Young they had to make cap room. I think Steve is gonna do big things in B'more for one, because he is the hardest working quarterback in football today. (Oh, and am I the only Titans fan in the DC area?)

And…another day, another broken MP3 player. What do y'all think? Should I get another Creative Zen, the SanDisk (creator of the iDon’tads), or join the hipsters scenesters and get a damn iPod?
