First, a little background for the youngin's. DJ Spinna is a respect NYC beatmaker, producing tracks for Mos Def, Talib Kweli to Pharaohe Monch. Hes also collaborated with notables like Brand Nubian, Guru, and Masta Ace.

So yeah, he’s a backpacker king. But don’tfront.

At first, I didn’tknow what to think about the new DJ Spinna album. Is it innovative? Not really. There’s a lot of stuff in there that we've heard before. Is it album of the year? Eh. It will probably find its way towards the middle of your CD collection.

But is is good?

Yes. You know that I don’tpost stuff on TCS that ain’tgood. I don’twant to waste y'alls time like that. Intergalactic Soul brings out the heavy hitters like N'Dea Davenport, Stephanie McKay, Phonte of Little Brother, Lizz Fields, Eric Roberson, and Tortured Soul to create a mixture of house, soul, hip-hop, and R&B.

This is one of those albums that you just ride to. You can stick it in your CD player, press play, and never touch it for almost an hour.

Intergalactic Soul drops June 27th on Shanachie Records.
