Album Preview: Rewind 5 (Ubiquity Records)

UR195_200.jpg

Now in its 5th iteration, the Rewind! series has been the most successful compilation album that Ubiquity has sold to date. The series gets love from such notables as URB, The Fader, King Britt, and Gilles Peterson.

Rewind! allows the artists to remake their favorite songs, from back in the day, in their own way and style. The selections in the series range from Sly Stone to Fleetwood Mac. Nothing is off limits.

Most notable about version 5? The CD contains not one, but two acts that Couch Sessions readers should know well by now. J*Davey brings their funk to Frank Zappa’s “Dirty Love,” and Nikki Jean, most notably of Nouveau Riche aids the Randy Watson Experience cover of Sting’s “Be Still My Beating Heart.”

I haven’tgotten my hands on this yet, but y'all know its on the to-do list. Expect a full review soon.
