Ursula Rucker - “Humbled”
from Ma'at mama (buy from K7 Records)
Although Philly-born Ursula Rucker has been on the grind for years now, the only press she usually gets is on the “Rising Stars” section of your local music magazine. It's unfortunate, because Ms. Rucker's powerful poetry is underheard as it is.
Rucker's mixture of poetry and African-influenced rhythms have made her an underground star. You might remember Ursula from her closing slot on the first three Roots albums. However, she has also worked with such notable acts as 4Hero, King Britt, Jazzanova, Mos Def, and Masters at Work.
Ms. Rucker's new album, Ma'at mama drops February 7th on K7 Records.
