I stay up here for Thanksgiving and this is what I miss…

What is going on DC?

A naked man darted from a sport-utility vehicle into a downtown Washington office building at lunchtime yesterday and then jumped to his death from the eighth floor, officials said.

The man double-parked in the 1000 block of 15th Street NW about noon, bolted from his still-running gray Jeep Cherokee, dashed past a crowd on the street and ran into the lobby of an office building, witnesses said.

Police were still trying to identify the man yesterday and to determine why he jumped. Witnesses also were trying to sort out what happened. The man had no apparent connection to the building, according to people who work there.

What the hell?

Ray J Murders Coldplay

rayj04.jpgNot literally, but he might as well.

Launch is doing this thing called “Cover Art”, which is a gloified way of saying, “B-List Stars Doing Karaoke.” Case in point: Ray-J “covering” Coldplay's “Clocks”.

I don't even know what to say. This ish is bad. Brandy's sister just messed up a classic song. Even worse is Ray-J doing a little Ashlee Simpson jig, playing the air guitar, and rocking back and forth in shades like Stevie Wonder. WTF?

For a REAL r&b cover of a alternative song, check out Bilal's cover or Radiohead.

If You Think I'm Jiggy….

If you are a fan of the LOX I'm sure you've heard about their radio apperance that occured this past week in which they were arguing with Puffy on the radio.

I've got a few links that may or may not work, but if they do industry rule #4080 will be played directly through your computer speakers, headphones, etc…

Missy Goin' Crazy

missy_elliot_180x180.jpg

So I came across a Missy Elliott video for her track “Teary Eyed”, which is off her latest album The Cookbook.

I have to say it is a decent song, but not like anything I've ever heard of hers. The video is also really kind of creepy. It was directed by Antti Jokinen, a Finnish video director, who has done other videos like Tweet's “Turn Da Lights Off”

Basically it's what would happen if Missy got to style her own outfits in the crazy house. Mmmm black vinyl straight jackets.

DC Pulse = No More?

Rumors are that DC Pulse has folded. They haven't put out an issue since August and they're not updating their website.

This is a sad event, mainly because not only was DC Pulse the HOTTEST thing to come out of DC, but it was most likely the HOTTEST magazine period. And it was Free.

And they put a half pipe in the middle of Club Five. Hotness.

But it seemed like they had a flawed business model. Make a magazine with glossy full color pictures and artwork and sell it for free? In this hick town? Please!

Got Beef?

So with this site, you can start beef with anyone, anywhere, anytime. It's pretty damn cool. Most of the MCs sound like suburban kids from Iowa, but I'm sure that will change once the site gets more popular. The sound quality ranges from decent to awful, because it depends on the beefers (or beefee's) microphone and internet connection. Even with all the pitfalls, its still the quickest way to start beef with anyone and stay alive in the process. (via Got Nok)

Random Ish: The “THAT IS DARKSIDED!!!” Edition

pic13030.jpg

CONTEST: Yo, we’re running a new Contest fools! Click on the banner above (or just click here) and enter for a chance to win an iPod Shuffle!

Oh, and there is a slight delay on the Podcasts. Dude’s gotta work and feed his kids, ya know? Seriously, though, we’ll start rescheduling Podcasts in January.

Black Gossip is the new hotness: I’m sure ya’ll are reading Beautiful Hustle, Crunk and Disorderly, and Concrete Loop by now.

Oh, and I just got a copy of Jazzanova/Blue Note Trip and it never left my CD player during my whole trip to and from Philly this past weekend. Most of ya’ll know that I respect Jazzanova from my days in London, so my love of this album is a given.

The Fader: I used to know someone who worked at The Fader, so I got the hookup with free magazines, CD’s etc. Now, it’s too damn expensive for a subscription, so I just bum Miss Hipstah’s copies when I can.

Pretty City. Check it.

Captian Bee. This dude gets mad booty.

Laura Burhenn: This girl is like a combination of Beth Gibbons and Coldplay. And she’s from DC. Been diggin’ her for the longest time, yet I still haven’t seen her perform in person. Her album is one of the best I’ve heard in a while.

Shambhala: I see Born Infinite on the bus almost every day for the past year and a half and I didn’t know he was making some of the hottest hip-hop out of DC. Who knew?

Bugz In Da Attic: I like their new track. I was not so much a fan of “Booty La La,” so I’m glad that they’re going back to their roots. Can’t wait until the album drops.

Leela James: I’m just not into her version of “Don’t Speak.” The original is just too damn good, and Leela does nothing to make the song her own (unlike, Bilal). Honey has the video.

Idiots Messing Up My Metro Commute: At least once a month some dude gets struck by a Metro train. Can’t ya’ll just jump off a building or something?

I’m out. This is gonna be an interesting weekend. Lata.
